Red Barn Farm

Farm dogs bark with excitement, a barn cat dashes out across the driveway, rows of pumpkins wait patiently to be taken home by an excited family. Across the barnyard, corn dances in the wind, showcasing the freshly cut trail through stalk after stalk of golden kernels. All signs of autumn have arrived at Red Barn Farm in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

The local farm, owned by Andy and Jackie Ditmyer, is a staple of the fall season in the Eastern Upper Peninsula. Red Barn Farm hosts a Harvest Party in the fall, when families come to experience the farm, enjoy the petting zoo and pick a pumpkin to take home.

“We plant over 1,300 pumpkins each year,” states owner, Andy Ditmyer. “The community just loves the Harvest Party weekends.”

The experience is catered to young families, although all grown-ups will enjoy the experience of a fall day on the farm.

“We want everyone to come and enjoy the farm,” Ditmyer states. “Every year we change the Harvest Party attractions, so kids always have something new to experience.”

The Ditmyer’s both work full-time jobs, which means Harvest Party weekends require all hands-on deck from their two children, Braden and Emma.

“We need a lot of help to ensure the events are successful, said Jackie Ditmyer. “We rely on our kids, family, friends, and local high school students to help in preparation for our harvest events.”

This year, The Red Barn Farm will host Harvest Party on September 25 – 26 and October 2-3. Follow the Red Barn Farm on Facebook to stay up to date on the latest information.
